Redesigning the European identity
The current flag of Europe is meant to represent a strong union. It is somewhat based upon a utopia, a representation of what Europe should be. My idea was to show the true state Europe is in, the hierarchy and complications. I created a system that converts important data into shapes. The flags show information like in an infographic. It shows the hierarchy of the countries, the political preferences and since when a specific country became part of Europe. Input such as national population and the amount of seats each country has in European Congress defines the shape of the flag. I used the same system to create the identity for The Netherlands and the state of Zuid-Holland.
